Today is a monumental day for the Calgary Public Library and fellow Calgarians. Nearly six years in the making, our collaboration with Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC), the City of Calgary, and the Calgary Public Library led to the highly anticipated grand opening of the New Central Library.
This beautifully designed civic project is a community hub for Calgary and its surrounding areas; inspiring learning and innovation throughout the 240,000 sq.ft. building. A key component of the City’s plan to kickstart inner-city renewal of East Village, the New Central Library is a landmark building that exemplifies design excellence and is a community space that inspires thought, collaboration, and conversation. The library features hundreds of thousands of books in its collections, specialized areas for youth, a technology area, a laboratory for innovation, a 320-seat theatre, and much more. In addition, Calgary Transit’s Light Rail Transit (LRT) line passes through the library, making it a truly unique building.
Congratulations to our partners CMLC, Dialog, Snøhetta, Stuart Olson, City of Calgary, and Calgary Public Library on a successful grand opening.
