The City of London recently completed a crucial step to meet requirements for the federal government’s Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) after receiving a housing needs assessment report at a recent Planning and Environmental Committee meeting.

With information collected from the 2021 census and local housing groups, the report prepared by our Colliers Project Leaders team outlines the pressing need for affordable housing for single people, seniors and larger families living in London. Broken down by housing type and geographic area, it provides an in-depth view of shortages for one-bedroom and bachelor apartments, larger family units and affordable housing for renters.

The city engaged our team to help with its Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s HAF grant application and provide support through the development process. It was the first municipality to secure funding under the program in 2023, followed by an additional $7.4 million in March 2025.

The city will update the housing needs assessment report regularly as it works to develop 2,000 affordable housing units over the next three years.
