Rebranding 167 stores

Bell Canada is Canada’s largest communications company and one of the country’s biggest telecommunication retailers. In January 2024, Bell Canada and Best Buy Canada – one of the country’s largest consumer electronics retailers – announced a strategic partnership to rebrand and renovate 167 of it’s The Source locations into Best Buy Express stores. Plans for the rebrand were executed in seven stages during a five-month period. Each stage included transforming approximately 23 stores in just two weeks.”

With a goal of opening all stores before Black Friday, our PM team developed an accelerated timeline and worked closely with the general contractors to deliver the program.

Best Buy Express stores offer customers a curated selection of Canada’s most popular tech and telecommunications services.

 

Strategic project delivery

Bell Canada engaged our project management team to support the delivery of this ambitious rebrand program. To ensure we could execute the program, maintain quality control, and mitigate risks during the design and construction of each renovation, we divided the work into distinct regions, each with a strategically-assigned project manager.

To make sure all 167 stores opened and were fully operational by Black Friday, each project manager carefully managed their project teams. We developed and implemented standardized processes – from site assessments to grand openings – that enabled project teams to deliver each store within the accelerated delivery timeline.

Managing the full program across a wide geography also required our project managers to communicate regularly with the general contractors to ensure each project progressed smoothly. As owner’s representatives, we ask questions to help us understand the owner’s objectives and embed ourselves in their processes and procedures. This project included members of our team working on a secondment so we could learn and adapt to our clients’ vision for the Best Buy Express rollout program. We integrated those lessons learned to improve execution in the following stages.

Working closely with Bell, Best Buy and their project teams, we proudly delivered all 167 Best Buy Express stores on schedule. The newly rebranded and integrated locations mark a new partnership between Bell Canada and Best Buy Canada, as well as a new approach to electronics and telecommunications retail. Each Best Buy Express store now offers customers a curated selection of the most popular technology products alongside Bell Canada’s notable telecommunications services.
