Pikangikum First Nation School

Pikangikum First Nation School

Pikangikum First Nation is a remote settlement on the eastern shores of Pikangikum Lake. To replace the community school that was destroyed by a fire, a new 100,000 sq. ft. school was built.

Project Scale

Equal education for everyone.

Our team was engaged by Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada to work in partnership with Keewatin-Aski Ltd., the Owner-Advisor group, to assemble the project team, plan, coordinate, and deliver this remote project. We led the evaluation and contract negotiation during procurement and assisted in the administration of the contract. Responsibilities included leading project initiation, managing the design-build procurement process, and providing oversight during design and construction, including stakeholder communications. Due to school’s location in a ‘Zone 4 – Special Access’ area, only accessible by air or winter road, the design-build team had to decide whether to build a road for efficient equipment transportation or to transport the equipment by barge or plane. This project was one of the largest winter road projects in INAC’s history.
