Iqaluit city council recently voted on a design concept to upgrade the city’s water system. The design includes drawing water from two nearby sources and building a new reservoir next to the nearby Lake Geraldine. This project will meet Iqaluit’s long-term water supply needs and optimize the city’s existing water distribution system.

The updated design adds the Apex River as a permanent water supply source to the previously approved design sourcing water from Qikiqtalik Lake and building a new reservoir. This design will increase the city’s water supply resilience and reduce ongoing operational costs. Once complete, the new water system will supply Iqalummiut with fresh, potable water.

Our advisors presented two options to Iqaluit city council, taking the unique geography, weather patterns and supply chains into consideration. The council ultimately selected the Apex River option, and is working closely with Colliers Project Leaders Director Ian McBean, Senior Project Manager Richard Sithole and Assistant Project Manager Ramesh Krishnan throughout the design, construction and closeout of this critical infrastructure project.
