The Zancor Centre officially opened its doors to the King community this month, marking the event with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a pancake breakfast, facility tours and an Ontario Junior Hockey League game.
The $86 million recreation complex is Canada’s first zero-carbon, combined aquatics and ice sports facility and features state-of-the-art amenities, including: a multipurpose athletic fieldhouse with artificial turf, two NHL-sized ice rinks, an indoor six-lane pool, and separate leisure pool.
“This is a momentous occasion for King Township. The Zancor Centre is a testament to over 20 years of vision and planning, originating from the 2004 parks and recreation master plan,” said Mayor Steve Pellegrini.
Situated on Seneca College’s King Campus, the 25-acre centre advances the Township’s vision for the future. The environmentally-sustainable facility will now serve King Township’s growing community, which is projected to reach 35,000 residents by 2030.
Colliers Project Leaders proudly supported King Township by providing project management services and representing the Township’s best interests during design and construction of the facility.
Several members of our team, including Deepu Balaraman, Malcolm Roll, Daniyal Muhammad, and Christina Cholkan attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony, as did Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Vaughan-Woodbridge MP Francesco Sorbara, Seneca Polytechnic President David Agnew, King-Vaughan MPP Stephen Lecce, and King-Vaughan MP Anna Roberts.
