Congratulations to North of Superior Healthcare Group (NOSH) for receiving the AdvantAge Ontario 2026 Capital Project Award in recognition of its long-term care project, Barrick Care.

NOSH accepted the award from our own Jamie Cook, National Healthcare Project Director, on April 22 during this year’s Advancing Senior Care convention. We are proud to sponsor the award annually, in recognition of a capital project that improves care, service delivery and the living environment for residents.

Barrick Care serves as a vital piece of community infrastructure in rural Northern Ontario. The 14-bed long-term care home enables seniors to stay close to their families, culture and community instead of relocating hundreds of kilometres to seek care. Thoughtful features, such as the Wiijiiwaagnika Gitigan (Ojibwe for “the garden where friends are found”) accessible outdoor garden and a dedicated sanctuary for smudging, reflect the values and traditions of the community it supports. The design of the space not only accommodates culture, but also meaningfully honours it.

The NOSH team delivered the project in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Long-Term Care, the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation and strong community support. This award-winning project demonstrates the impact of partnership in addressing local needs.

We applaud NOSH for their work on this exceptional community-focused project.
