Prince Edward County and the Province of Ontario have officially broken ground on a new 160-bed redevelopment of H.J. McFarland Memorial Home in Picton. The project addresses a long-standing need for additional long-term care beds in the region following the closure of Picton Manor Nursing Home in 2012.

The redevelopment will replace the county’s existing 84-bed long-term care home, offering a more intimate and welcoming living space for residents. Staff and residents from H.J. McFarland were joined by provincial and municipal leaders to celebrate the milestone.

“Today is truly an exciting milestone for the future of long-term care in Prince Edward County,” said Mayor Steve Ferguson. “Behind me, the foundation of this warm and welcoming new home is starting to form… Our architects, planners and construction teams are turning the vision into a reality.”

This $94.7 million project is part of the Ontario government’s continued progress toward its commitment to build 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds across the province, as outlined in the 2025 Ontario budget.

We are proud to provide project management services for the development — managing costs, supporting construction timelines and minimizing project risks. In addition, we’re delivering operational readiness, move management and furniture, fixtures and equipment (FFE) support.
