‘Hali Hub’ a testament to East Coast office culture
At Colliers Project Leaders, we aspire to make meaningful impacts within our communities – and our teams. We understand that to best serve our clients, we need workspaces for our own employees that are functional, flexible and support our long-term service goals. When the lease for our Halifax office came up for renewal, we saw an opportunity to refresh our work environment and decided to move to a new floor – and space – in the same building at 1559 Brunswick Street.
Fondly referred to as ‘Hali Hub’ – our new 3,300 sq. ft. office is a gathering place where our teams connect, collaborate and find community in a flexible working environment. When designing the new office, we made a deliberate effort to create a space that is functional and that our teams want to use and enjoy. The office includes a variety of workspaces including stand-up desks and lockers, as well as quiet rooms, nooks for quiet concentration, sofas and other flex seating. Throughout the office flexibility was at the forefront, including an intentional approach to use pre-manufactured walls that can modify the space based on changing needs. In the spirit of community, the office also includes a stocked kitchen where employees can share a drink, join in potlucks, socialize and take a break.
Recognizing the frequency of virtual calls in the office, we commissioned a captivating mural of the Halifax skyline to serve as a unique backdrop. With inclusivity in mind, we’ve also included a frosted-glass quiet room to accommodate confidential conversations, prayer or privacy for new mothers.
We want this space to be more than just an office, we want it to be a safe and inclusive Hub where colleagues and clients gather – whether you’re there for a few hours or the full day.

Blending culture, function and flexibility
The delivery of this project was more than just an office fit-up exercise; it was an opportunity to showcase our expertise and service capabilities, while also evaluating how we (as our own client), engage with our different service teams. Our project management, furniture, fixtures and equipment, and move management teams joined forces to support the transition of our Halifax office.
We finalized the design for the new space in March 2020. Although the pandemic posed several challenges, our team continued to make decisions, mitigate risks and find solutions that enabled us to keep the project moving forward. One of those solutions was to take a pre-manufactured approach to construction, which allowed us to speed construction after some inevitable delays. This was an important element, as we had been using the second floor of the office building as a swing space so we could continue to operate as we fit-up and transitioned from one floor to another.
Our furniture and equipment and move management services also played a fundamental role during our transition. They identified furniture we could reuse in the new space, while also procuring the items needed to deliver on our vision for a more flexible and collaborative space.
Today, our Halifax office is a bustling office hub. Our Halifax team makes a point of using our desk booking system, which has enabled us to double our staff number while operating with the same number of seats. Our approach to design continues to support our growth strategies and sense of community in a customized space that suits our office culture, workplace strategy and individual needs.
