The Jordantown-Acaciaville-Conway Betterment Association (JACBA) received Green and Inclusive Community Buildings (GICB) program funding to support the construction of the Center of Excellence in Nova Scotia.

The Center of Excellence will celebrate the life and heritage of African Nova Scotians and will be a gathering place for generations of families. It will offer educational opportunities, cultural programming, ancestry research, space for recreational activities and a space to celebrate special moments. The Center will include a community room, gymnasium, stage, fitness room, library, meeting room, seniors’ area, and rental space.

As part of Canada’s Strengthened Climate Plan, the GICB program supports green and accessible retrofits, repairs or upgrades of existing public community buildings and the construction of new publicly accessible community buildings that serve high-needs, underserved communities across Canada. JACBA will receive up to $2.6 million through the fund, in addition to funding from the Province of Nova Scotia, the municipality and town of Digby, and through contributions from JACBA’s own fundraising efforts.

Our team in Nova Scotia worked with JACBA to prepare and submit the original GICB application, resulting in additional program funding for the center. We are looking forward to leading the delivery of the project, with plans to break ground on the new center this spring.
