Thompson Rivers University (TRU) recently held a groundbreaking event to mark the beginning of work on its Low-Carbon District Energy System (LCDES) building. The ambitious 5,800 sq. ft. facility will provide heating for 13 buildings on campus. Powered by electricity, air and water source pumps will distribute water to heat the buildings, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 95 percent.

TRU will retrofit buildings on campus to accommodate the pipe infrastructure needed to transfer heat. The system will also include renewable natural gas boilers as a contingency plan for the coldest winter months.

Our Colliers Project Leaders team in British Columbia is providing comprehensive project management services for this project throughout design, construction, commissioning and closeout. Once complete, the $18 million facility will help ensure the university meets its goal of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2030.
